The problem is the experts have also constantly changed their mind on things often going back and forth, so in effect they are also spreading misinformation.
I listened to a recent Joe Rogan podcast today with Michael Osterholm
"American epidemiologist, Regents Professor, and Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and on Joe Biden's COVID-19 Advisory Board"
Most of the episode was what you expect nothing controversial at all, but was interesting what he said on mask and mask mandates, said they are basically useless unless those N95 type with filters etc, but he then said its pointless if you then go and take it off to eat etc, if say on a plane or at work etc
It's something thats been said elsewhere quite a bit, but interesting that the narrative among many including governments is that they still work
A recent article on it
https://www.infectioncontroltoday.com/view/cloth-masks-are-useless-agai…
"Facing complex and often unmanageable cognitive demands, humans often prefer simple but incorrect explanations to complex but accurate ones, especially if they are also shared by others. Simplifying cognitive habits such as categorization promote cognitive efficiency, and populist narratives naturally cater to our appetites for simplification, dividing the world into simple categories of “us and them,” “good and bad.”"
and who's the crew constantly trying to reduce every issue to 'good and bad' and 'us and them'?
vicidiot, lack of stok, bindboy...
when realy, it is quite obvious most posters fall along a continuum on a range of issues...
but no, for these clowns, it's all an anti trump / trump dichotomy...
still...
a dichotomy lobotomy
Looks like Dan finally got his white Elephant
"Victoria's $580m purpose-built COVID quarantine facility in Mickleham opens as border rules lift"
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-20/victoria-mickleham-quarantine-fa…
Actually a bit scary as he will be itching to use it.
@Bonza
No examples of populism there.
How is using lockdowns in response to covid, or mandates to increase the vaccination rates related to creating an us vs them elites vs the people scenario?
Both Vic and WA have experienced completely different challenges to the rest of aus throughout the pandemic, with WA enjoying essentially undisturbed freedoms, and Vicco experiencing the pain and isolation of being locked out to all states. This is what has shaped there responses, not populism.
Also, you don't need science to back up mandates. Mandates are a public policy to ensure the uptake of vaccines are high.
It's like climate change. We know that using more efficient vehicles is a step to reduce our impact. Mandating minimum emissions standards is not actually based on science, it's ensuring uptake.
The common trope that mandates are not based on scientific evidence is pure right wing propaganda crap. Something you seem to be well acquainted with.
@sypkan
You're the chief of making it a seppo political dichotomy.
"*edit. i agreed at the beginning with the earlier restrictions. that agreement faded in degrees until about October last year when it should have ended or thereabouts. I never supported the vaccine mandates."
"I reckon that’s how the majority of Australians feel Bonza myself included"
exactly!
the vast vast majority of australians seemed to feel this way, they could easily see when andrews and mcgowan were overstepping the mark...
yet here we are, 6 months later, and the andrews fanboys are still defending his overeach...
mindless tribalism
'us and them'
That sounds like a boomer quote to me.
And here is a classic example of misinformation. Clowns like burleigh should not be given free reign to post their bs.
you deny it all you want champ, but you cannot resist throwing some anti- trumpian madness in your posts, just look up the page
bindboy and vicidiot are exactly the same, you think anything that doesn't align with andrews overreach is trumpian, alt right, populism....
the dude is gone, time to change your anti-trump lens
until he's back.... which you guys are just facillitating...
carry on...
'winning'
"the vast vast majority of australians seemed to feel this way (against vaccine mandates),"
sypkan. That is just pure bullshit.
See below.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/sep/14/guardian-essenti…
Where are you getting your figures from champ? "vast vast majority" would have to be 85% + opposing vaccine mandates. Let's see your link.
Anyone with half a brain
scum of the earth, his own best friend
“ Rational argument has limited utility in convincing “true believers” who reject the value of discussion”
Of course it’s populism.
And I never said vaccine mandates weren’t based on science. I said I didn’t agree with them. Actually I said a covid vaccine. But your black and white brain won’t understand the difference. . I acknowledge there are sound arguments for a covid mandate. But I disagree with them. And that’s because there are sound logical evidence based arguments for not mandating a covid vaccine.
But whatever - that was then and this now. So why are we still doing it? Cause your type has a hard on for winning a bulls hit argument
Climate change is a good example. Decades of evidence based knowledge vs 18 months of thinking on our feet with an unknown entity yet those same democratically elected leaders you love to put all your faith in and abuse anyone who questions them re covid policy have for the last 20-30 years ignored and worse systemically lied and dismissed the evidence for action on climate despite the science. The same leaders you want everyone to trust re covid.
You don’t believe that anything that’s happened over the past 2 years had been influenced by money?
This might just be your dumbest post yet…. And you’ve had some doozies
Ahhh yep a magic survey from the holy guardian that no body has ever heard about or filled out.
Vic, would you ever back your intuition over say a survey or trusting the science?
aside from you twisting the narrative to suit your own bullshitting purposes, again, which is what you do...
(nice use of brackets twister...)
your articles are 6 months old...
love to see those polls now!
I was referring to the restrictions more widely, and dan andrews general wide reaching overreach... lockdowns, borders shut, playgrounds shut, masks in ridiculous circumstances etc....
we know you would have us still locked down... still!! ...ffs you have said as much...
but sorry, the vast vast majority of austrailians were way over that shit in october, and could see how unscientific the whole shit show had become
but you keep advocating foe those lockdowns....
im sure there's still a japanese soldier somewhere fighting WW11
so you are not totally alone wallowing in your own ridiculous ignorance
You can shift the goal posts all you want sypkan. If your "vast vast majority" opinion was even close to being accurate, Dan Andrews wouldn't be leading in the polls by a very long margin.
Just because you say crap over and over again, doesn't make it true.
And it's also so easy to prove you are completely full of shite. Stop embarrassing yourself sypkan.
https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/labor-surges-further-ahead-…
https://www.roymorgan.com/findings/8859-roy-morgan-survey-on-approvals-…
"but you keep advocating foe those lockdowns...."
Stop making stuff up sypkan.
im not shifting anything you obtuse twit
I was referring to bonza's post, you know the quote about restrictions, with a lttle tag on he threw in at the end
are you really this thick? or just an angry antagonist?
we've been over the andrews in polls thing about 100 times, we both know it is not due to anything significant he has done, but due to an absolutely woeful opposition - basically unvoteable...
and lets be honest, vicco voters are an odd bunch, never voted conservatuve in my life, but I would do anything in my power to make my disgust at andrew's mismanagement known if I was in victoria... viccos not so much... so so conservative, ...in their 'progressive'...
their neoliberal stooged progressive
dude, if you are constantly criticising NSW and scono for 'letting her rip'... you are advoating lockdowns... you haven't stopped!!!
so, you stop making stuff up...
Just go away nobody wants to read your crap here or any thread, don’t you get it.
Plenty that has happened over the past 2 years has been influenced by money.
Ahhhhh good old ACA showing Australia that the horse de-wormer has been approved as a treatment
Misinformation,...misinformation..!! ;-P
5 month old articles again. Hahahaha
Hey DickVocal it’s nearly March 2022
Whatever champ. If Dan Andrews is so hated in Victoria why are Labor killing the LNP at both state and federal level in the polls? Here's the trend champ.
My god Burleigh, do you ever get tired of being so hopelessly wrong all the time?
Hahaha
What's youre poing Burlsack?
That a stock photo from ACA shows the 'narrative is wrong'!?
Mate - you should be ashamed of listening to a kook like that, who watches ACA.
More misinformation of police violence in Ottawa.
I'm not sure what the threshold is for what some consider violence..but yeah...
Only sharing via rebelnews because it was the first place i found it on and the reporter is with rebel.
https://www.rebelnews.com/breaking_rebel_news_journalist_alexa_lavoie_a…
Come on was she reporting or participating with a mike in her hand. Gonzo journalism with an agenda
You have to be joking??
Sypkan,
Yeah, nah.
You have no idea how popular Dan is in this state and it has nothing to do with how weak the VicLibs are.
His popularity was cemented during the bushfire response and has only been enhanced by his pandemic response.
You sound like some half arsed NewsCorp journalist or SkyNews bobblehead in your little rant.
Victorians were proud that they got the virus under control during the first waves, they were prepared to do the lockdowns and were mightily pissed at NSW, Gladys and Dom when they didn't control it.
I've lived here under every premier going back to Henry Bolte, good and bad on both sides, and never seen a premier so popular. The reason he is so popular is because he is regarded as being very good at his job. In the upcoming election he will be returned with an even bigger majority. He will retire undefeated. Victorian voters an "odd bunch", "neoliberal progressive stooges", yeah, whatever you say. They have shown to be pretty astute over the years to me, but I only live here everyday, you must get a clearer view from 'I got the shitsville" or under that rock in some other State.
@BD “Trudeau has instructed police to attack journalists” yeah right. An unbiased journalist wouldn’t be in there. It’s Rebel News of course there’s an agenda. And before you even get to the story there’s a donation page to sue police. Come on really
BD, nothing but inflammatory actions and reporting by a heavily biased news source.
She may very well have been struck by police, but any media source worth their salt (or worth anything) would report 'Alex was ALLEDGEDLY struck...'. We can't know the entire circumstances here, I'm not defending violence, and it may very well have been completely the police's fault. But these are riot police, tasked to clear the protestors who were given fair warning to move on. These people have been exercising their right to protest, but compromising the freedom of others - the police have a duty to ensure the protest ended at the communicated time, in a rapid fashion.
As Seeds has said, insinuating there's been a direction to attack Rebel News reporters is laughable. Actually, really laughable. Wouldn't that be pretty much exactly what Rebel News would want?
Trudeau's like:
'hmmm, I want to suppress independent news sources as they keep calling me a tyrant, I know! I'll instruct the entire police force to target them when we're clearing out the protestors!'.
Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Seeds and Stok. Hang your heads in shame.
I'm embarrassed to be on this thread alongside these commenters.
And like i said, just sharing it for the video, not the article you two lowlifes.
Someone’s been triggered. You must be due for a booster or a flu shot
Wrong about you sharing a 5 month old article?
Geez mate you’re extra spicy tonight.
Lowlife ouch. BD I did once say to you it sometimes pays to temper one’s idealism. You’re not thinking straight. You’ve got a dirt moustache you’re so far down the rabbit hole. You are a passionate one but doesn’t mean you’re right
BD, but this thread isn't your safe place. It's not an echo chamber. It's a place where some people's views will not align with yours.
You also shared a story from a highly biased, low quality news source.
Oh, and I don't feel any shame at all. Rebel News should be held accountable for the number of people they push beyond the edge with their 'breaking, exclusive news'. These dangerously inaccurate, heavily biased and targeted news stories are enough to encourage people to leave their jobs and believe they should face off against police to 'fight for freedom'? Maybe these people wouldn't have strayed down that path if they didn't tap into Rebel News, and hear about how Trudeau is stealing all their freedoms?
I dont doubt any of that adam12...
'viccos are an odd bunch'
really truly are...
like a really really big adelaide
but not as cool
It's never ok to hit a woman. It's never ok to hit a peaceful protester. It's never ok to hit a reporter. It's never ok to hit a peaceful protesting female reporter, it's never ok to shoot a peaceful protesting female reporter at point blank range with a tear gas cannister in the leg.
Or is it? Temper that you lowlives. Two of the lowest on the evolutionary scale of mankind. Crawl back into the disgusting cesspit of humanity you creeped out of. Filth.
Haha oh geez where did I state that it’s ok to hit a woman. Where is the footage of the lead up. Peaceful? Who would know. A real reporter wouldn’t be in there and a real news outlet certainly would take the safety of their employees more seriously. You don’t know what was going on but you’re incapable of looking at it rationally because it’s suits your bias. And you didn’t even read the article.
On another note I find it perplexing that ever since you threw your toys out the cot at Blowin on your Reparations thread you’ve basically become the same on this thread with your hopped up and insulting rhetoric to others of differing opinions.
Oh dear, BD, not again. Can we not just have a discussion without things flying off the handle?
Is another threat of violence on the way?
Look, like Seeds I never purported any of the stuff you mentioned. You gotta understand you've hung the red rag out to the bulls - a Rebel News story, about a reporter being attacked by police, where highly dubious statements are made, inconclusive photos are shown and a video which proves very little is included.
To quote what I said just above:
"I'm not defending violence, and it may very well have been completely the police's fault."
Interesting you roll out the 'it's never ok to hit a peaceful protesting female reporter' line. Highly emotive, and volatile. But also very confusing. Is she a reporter or a protestor?
Regardless, I'm very ill-equipped to discuss the ethics of dispersing crowds. It would be a nightmare. I'd hate to be a police officer. The protestors are looking for martyrdom. Looking for chance to go viral. All genders and people (and sometimes parents with children), purposely peacefully ignoring directions to move on. Peacefully resisting without moving. Peacefully standing in front of a riot police line, or a moving horse?
Lowlifes. See how you try to twist your words away your enabling of violence against women. Look how many words you type to try to divert what your original posts were. Enabling this sort of violence.
To shoot a woman in the leg at point blank range, with anything....when you're covered head to toe in riot gear, you're twice as big as her, you're holding 2 weapons and you have dozens of fully jacked up armoured people behind you..... is defensible in your opinion. Fark me. Keep digging. I've lost someone close to me because of enablers like you.
A peaceful protest. Cameras everywhere. Not a single skerrick of vision of violence from protesters. Yet......defend the brutality of a woman bashing cop. Low lifes.
And yep, this thread should be shut down. This filth above shouldn't be allowed to have a voice on a website with a good reputation like SN's.
Fucked if i'm ever logging back into this thread again. Dark place with some people that probably belong on forums on non surfing websites. Disgusting. Don't support the mandates folks. The government and the 2 goons above plus their 3 man(ha!) entourage don't have your best interests at heart.
Fuck me you’re cooked. How am I enabling any of that. Your frontal lobe isn’t working right. Red haze?
And I don’t support the mandates and I think it’s shitful that people lost their jobs when we hit 90%
You just don’t listen with your rage. Your casserole is dripping off the ceiling.
If this bloke thinks he’s talking for all victorians then think again.
Make no mistake, viccos would be doing much of the same as the last two years if it wasn’t for the shining light of its north eastern neighbour. Much to viclocal , stok and Adams disgust.
Ol vicloc banging on and on about scomo and glady and the whole ‘let it rip’ brigade. It’s madness he said, the hospitals won’t be able to cope he said. Wait until 2 weeks time he said over and over again. You’ll see he said, pointing his make believe gun at us. The unvaxd need to be punished, face consequences and be held to account! he said. Fetch me another crown lager please roadkill, he said
Fast forward a few months and half of the world is also ‘letting it rip’. Fast forward a few more months and vic and co will eventually come out of hibernation but only for a few hours a day. It’s best to test the waters first he’ll say.
BD take some time out mate. If it’s getting to you too much take a breath, shut the device down and read a book. Remember, everyone has differing opinions. I enjoy yours but I can see you’re getting upset by it all. Be well.
But, Rebel News do have your best interests at heart, don't they!?
They'd never bend the truth to get clicks, or to shift a storyline politically?
Yep. Shut this thread down. Why have a thread which acts as an outlet for people to share news stories such as this, on a surfing website!?
p.s. BD, stop blaming strangers who you have absolutely no association with for unrelated events in your life, not good karma.
Yeah good work Alana.
Just ignore that Omicron came into play in November, and this, coupled with our high vax rate, is why things didn't get too out of hand. Of course, things did get out of hand, just depends who you ask (maybe a Sky News host, or a ICU staffer?).
Just downplay the significance of Australia having almost 2 years of covid free living thanks to the sacrifices and work put in by Victorians to contain it. Only to watch it fall apart in July 2021 thanks to NSW.
Dunno about you but it would've been great for NSW to keep covid in their state during the June to September period or whatever it was. Really didn't need a lockdown all last winter?
In your opinion stok would it then of gotten so out of hand if so many nurses/ doctors didn’t quit/ be told they weren’t allowed on site?
Oh ok, so you thought it was possible to be COVID free in Victoria. I rest my case.
