We've got a few days to wait, so what is everyone's all-time favourite catch in cricket?

This today in the comments to The Age's article on the sledging of Australian players at Lords .... spot on

" After the utter stupidity of the self-inflicted wound of Brexit and repeated election wins for a poorly organised cabal of plunderers pretending to be a political party, the UK needs this circus to take its collective mind off the fact that they are circling the drain."

That sounds like a really well balanced piece, must be true

Still raining in Madchester. Apparently it's still the place to score mind altering substances. How else can you explain this from Stuart Broad? "We're too lucky for it to rain all day.... it would be "unjust" if the weather robbed England of a chance to win"

Rabbits68 Monday, 24 Jul 2023 at 12:51 pm new

Stuart Broad saying Stuart Broad things. Piers Morgan too. Basically blaming the Aussies for the poor weather. Classic whinging Poms. They blew it tactically given they had to win the game. The weather forecast was there for all to see from day 1 and proved to be pretty accurate throughout. The Poms should've known better being in their own back yard. I think they got a little bit too drunk on Bazball, amassing such a big first innings total and sucking precious time out of the game which proved fatal.

The last test is set to be another ripper. The Aussies will be pumped to win the the series whilst the Poms will be desperate to level it and claim some sort of moral victory. Can't wait.

blackers Monday, 24 Jul 2023 at 01:12 pm new

Ha ha. Piers Morgan is paid to be a gobshite, Broad has clearly drunk to cool aide.

Not sure why but the press here have gone after Cummins big time. Some poor decision-making from both sides in this one but a very close series otherwise. It's been good fun. Agree about the last test having potential, hope it is a ripper.

upnorth Wednesday, 2 Aug 2023 at 01:47 am new

The draw was probably a fair result although Australia will feel they missed out on the series win having been 2-0 up. In the end the rain saved the day and probably the series for Australia in Manchester where they were totally dominated by England, not many teams can do that or come back from 2-0 down against the world test champions. Unusual to see England playing the more positive and aggressive cricket, Australia looked a bit shell shocked at times. An interesting contest between 'Bazball' and more traditional cricket. Cracking series anyway and a brilliant advert for test cricket. A worthy send off for Broad, a six with his last hit and the winning wicket in the final test. Nice to see him and Warner embrace and share some words after the match, good sportsmanship.

etarip Wednesday, 2 Aug 2023 at 02:07 am new

Fantastic series. Just like 2005, this series was defined for Australia by the loss of a key bowler to injury. Nathan Lyon is such a key part of the Aussies game - I’d argue they could have lost any other bowler and been fine. He’s a crucial wicket taker. Nothing the closeness of all the results, I think that was the difference.

They should have trusted Murphy more. Some terrible bowling tactics - too much shirt stuff that played to Bazball (ugh…) strengths.

upnorth Wednesday, 2 Aug 2023 at 05:40 am new

Yeah the loss of Lyon was a big miss for Australia, he can hold up an end over after over and take key wickets. Same with England for Archer and Leach, although Leach isn't the same league as Lyon he has grown in confidence under Stokes. Bringing Ali out of retirement was a desperate measure but he played well in the end and his body held up, just.
Probably should've trusted Murphy more but Australia were never in a position where they could afford to ship more runs and England were sure to attack. He looked half decent though and handy with the bat.

Pops Wednesday, 2 Aug 2023 at 09:35 am new

Yep losing Lyon was a major turning point., as was Woods' and Woakes' return.
Some strange tactical decisions, but I guess Cummins would point to going 2-0 up as vindication.
That ball change was a big factor in the last game though; would still have been a very close result, but it doesn't seem outlandish for Australia to have gotten another 50 runs had the ball not been changed / a true like-for-like replacement been made - original ball wasn't doing much, new one was hooping around corners...

Great series.

blackers Thursday, 3 Aug 2023 at 12:20 pm new

It was fun and had a fair scoreline in the end. Apart from Madchester it was a close thing between the 2 teams. Cant see the Baz thing taking off long term, Crawley for example mis-hit many more than he made a good connection with, too much chance for a total implosion, but it may encourage a more attacking mindset in others which is a good thing.

Yeah mate great win by the Strikers in Perth. Scorchers got themselves in very winnable positions in their last two games but were clearly outplayed in the end of both of them, almost choked I reckon, but credit to the opposition sides. Will be interesting to see who wins it this year.

This is a good test. Possibly one of the best stands of visiting batsmen i've seen on Aussie soil in a long time. I reckon we might get at least 3 days out of this one. Well done West Indies. They're playing with pride. Ahh shit..that's another wicket! Dammit!

Rabbits68 Friday, 26 Jan 2024 at 04:46 pm new

Young Sinclair is having a fantastic debut. A fifty & now an epic catch! Awesome to see the Windies smiling again. Great for the game.

blackers Friday, 26 Jan 2024 at 07:12 pm new

They are stepping up. Good to see Kemar Roach back amongst it too. Good for cricket for sure.

blackers Saturday, 27 Jan 2024 at 09:52 pm new

Game is at an interesting stage. Shame about Shamar Joseph, cracking ball but would have hurt! Time for Smith to show he deserves to be an opener. Great to see some real fight from the West Indies .

Rabbits68 Saturday, 27 Jan 2024 at 10:03 pm new

Agree Blackers. Bummer about Joseph alright. Certainly looked like he was in serious pain! Could get pretty interesting with a few more wickets.

dazzler Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 09:12 am new

Conditions would have been oppressive last night. On southern GC it was 27deg & 94% humidity at 9.00pm.

Raining consistently for last few hours & forecast for most of today.

Fingers crossed we get some play, Windies in front at the moment.

seeds Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 09:24 am new

Driving to Briz airport at 4am this morning was 28 degrees and 90% humidity.
Heavy rain and lightning has stopped all flights this morning.

Shamar Joseph on fire. Windies up & about!

blackers Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 04:21 pm new

You beat me to it. Gotta love the bloke for this effort.

Rabbits68 Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 04:40 pm new

Absolutely Blackers. Doin it with a broken toe too apparently. Must’ve had a jab.

etarip Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 05:04 pm new

Decision to declare 22 runs behind, with a wicket in hand in the first innings seemed a little ‘confident’ to me at the time.

This is going to the wire.

blackers Sunday, 28 Jan 2024 at 05:10 pm new

He is going to win it for them, broken toe and all. What an absolute blinder of an effort. Will do the Aussie team no harm to lose this.

Well that was highly deserved. Good on you young man. Take a bow Shamar Joseph.

An interruption in play has occurred on day 2 of the Gold Coast Test, after a score of 55 not out on day 1.

Southernraw. Hi fella.

Digging the cricket, Konstas is toying with them, Kohli will be in huge strife with the referee. AW

Hi AW. All time theatre mate. All time theatre. I've seen alot of boxing day tests but never seen a start like this, by a debutant. Kohli is a dick.

When he went for that ramp shot (that he missed) in the 3rd over I thought he would settle down or it would be a short innings!

well, guess i was wrong!
