Just curious on cost and if Airlines were loading up the Peak Season Prices.
Just had a look for late April Jetstar Melb to Bali direct $227 one way (perth less, Sydney & Brisbane strangely almost double)
Qantas, Singapore, Malaysia airlines etc double or more.
Had a quick look at July about $220-$330 for Melb-Sydney-Brisbane one way Jetstar
Problem is Jetstar have been selling flights but cancelling them all, only airline i know of currently flying into Bali is Singapore Airlines via Singapore.
Until VOA are given out im betting most airlines wont fly to Bali.

"The government is introducing a trial for entry without quarantine for foreign travellers arriving in Bali.
The trial is slated to begin on 14th March 2022.
“The government will also conduct a trial without quarantine for overseas travellers who come to Bali and it is planned to take effect on 14th March with several conditions,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in a virtual press conference on Sunday 27th February 2022.
Pandjaitan said the quarantine-free trial in Bali could even be implemented before 14th March. According to him, the trial will be accelerated if the trend of COVID-19 cases in Bali decreases in the next week."

"It’s not necessary to close Australia’s borders with Indonesia to prevent a devastating outbreak of foot and mouth disease, according to the federal agriculture minister.
During today’s press conference, Murray Watt says he is confident the Indonesian government is taking the outbreak seriously.
“It would have a hugely damaging impact on our trade and our relationship with Indonesia... the advice is that is not necessary,” he said.
There are many countries around the world where foot and mouth disease is present and the borders were never closed to them even by the previous government, Watt added.
“That’s the similar approach that we’re taking in relation to Bali and Indonesia.”

so looks like we will YOLO foot & mouth, haven't had it since 1870s. Have no idea if it's as transmissable as other stuff that can be transported by planes, but the response seems in line with the spirit of the times. I feel Ag sector mustn't have enough pull in Canberra. Party on dudes.

It aint new that Indonesia does not like western culture outside of Bali.
Doubt much will happen in Bali but could be open to blackmailing some gullible tourists.
The charges have to be based on police reports lodged by a spouse, parents or children so maybe not too much impact to the tourist?
Cannot see in making any difference in Bali or Jakarta... Maybe rural areas and as pointed out, had to be based on report by parent, spouse or child....
Criticizing President law not good for their young version of democracy though.

As long as the tourist is aware of the law of who can lodge a complaint, easy to bluff a half cut horny tourist with threats of jail if they don’t cough up some rupiah. The traffic cops where I lived in sanur had fake books printed with the costs of traffic infringements like eg . 250,000 rp for not wearing a helmet , but if you go to court it was 50,000 rp . Not saying it’s going to happen but I can see an easy scam here .

My first thought was what an idiot typical bule etc, then I started reading the article and saw the pics and kinda feel a bit sorry for him, young and dumb, we have all had one of those nights on the piss and lost it(never got violent but), normally you just wake up feeling like crap and embarrassed by things people say you did or said.
But in this case he has had it broadcast by media with pics and will face the law, that would suck and will never live it down.
Its probably going to also effect the resort in some way and possibly make it harder to get alcohol in the area.

Tragic. Sad news...
I remember years ago , maybe 8 or 9 years , I was doing a long stint in indo and my room on lembongan was home base . A boat with refugees heading to Australia had gone down and bodies were floating around shipwrecks and some entangled in the seaweed farms . A few gassed up bodies scattered along the beach , horrific sight to wake up to and such a tragic ending to these poor souls seeking a better life .

Have done this trip myself and was a bit scepital about the indo 'fast boat' when arrived at the port in north Nias
there was also 8 odd guys from Vic that were lost at sea about the same time i visited but were found. they had an article in Tracks about their ordeal
I was posting on the wrong thread yesterday and as I can’t get back to sleep after my nightly bladder break , decided to post something of interest, well interesting to me . I mentioned that Joko or Prabowo , depends which local you’re talking too , was in kupang yesterday before flying in to tamboloka . Then i got to thinking, well if the convoy was heading for NiHi , then maybe it was both of them or their representatives, sure was a big convoy . They might be doing a handover chat . You can still walk to the beach but need to park your bike and walk about a k to have a look, huge area and camp was over a hundred indo’s .

Haven't been to Rote, but I would think too many established places to have someone come in and shut it down? But it's Indonesia, so who knows

Agreed it will be hard to make Boa exclusive but they may restrict access and only way in/out could be by boat . Very very slow project so far . There is a resort recently opened ( 3 months ) further up and it took about 15 years to build . Very strange location as no beach just reef on low tide and no waves out front . Only 12 of 24 rooms currently open and when I enquired rooms were 1.7 million rp a night . Had a look at menu and everything like pizza , hamburger, fish & chips were 200,000 rp spirits by the nip same price . Hardly anyone there but a lot of staff standing around. Made me think it was just a money laundering venture . Weird.
Yeah that new resort at Boa is some wishful thinking. I mean the place is just so dry and dusty, very,very fickle break,and relentless honking trade winds blowing onshore into the bay. It's a desert for most of the surf season. If they make it exclusive there is no way the guests will be surfing Tland, the local crew will make sure of that. (Was still able to ride through the gates to the beach in August). But regardless, looks like full steam ahead for the developers.

Yeah agreed , I rode in the first day and got chased down and had to park in their parking area 1 klm back from beach. Nakal bule
