This clip from 5 summer stories will give you younger crew a good look at the boards we rode in '72. It wasn't all great in the 70's but it was fun.
That's pretty impressive not holding back and reading those waves perfectly probably the best tube footage of a female I've seen, and even the turns are powerful, you can tell she really wants to smack those lips.

I kinda think that even though Caroline Marks is only going to get better, generally speaking style is something that is innate.

Chelsea has a more refined technique , particularly for surfing from a decade ago but Caroline has the X factor as did Occy.
Not so much unpredictable but unrestrained. Brutal aggression. She’s still young and a bit goofy , happy to be giving it to the top girls. Wait till she’s owning it a bit and she gets challenged.....she’ll lose her shit and go next level. From friendly puppy fighting to attack dog.
Chelsea has always been one of my favourite chick surfers . It’s nice to have another . There hasn’t been too many girls I’d watch a stand alone video part - perhaps a dozen ( ? ) the more the merrier.
There's aggression and power but then there's style and finesse.
I mean, I can watch Tom Carroll for a while but I can watch Tom Curren for a lot longer.

I reckon from 1.55 in that Chelsea vid above, she's drawing more radical and committed lines than CM.
CM surfs teahupoo really well. And like some one else said above she’s only 18 and going to get a crap load better. I reckon many of the guys on here wouldn’t of made a lot of those take offs. Me included

Nice to see a bio surf flick which wasn’t based on hand wringing over lost heats. This wasn’t about surfing as a career , this was about surfing being everything to you .....until drugs and self doubt creep in.
Crazy how broad is the spectrum of participation in surfing. Nice to see the depiction of someone out of the ordinary. The strange thing is that it’s really just the surfing part of it that was extraordinary. The rest was just a bloke with too much money to be held accountable to just about anything. His adventures were impressive, but no more so than that which pretty much anyone could get up to with endless cash.
His creation of the short board , low rail after living the surfing monk existence is the stuff I thought was special. Other than that it’s just Motley Crüe-esque lifestyle porn. Fun enough tale to learn but not the story of the God-like fella with limitless reserves of talent in all arenas that I was expecting.
Made special by the fact that it wasn’t just all talking heads describing retrospective shit as a lot of these Bio flicks can be. The amount of home footage and interviews with the man himself took it to the next level.
Well made , interesting movie on a surfing character I was peripherally award of which fleshed him out without descending into hagiography or cautionary tale. Non judgmental story on a different kind of life.
It’s on Amazon Prime. They’re doing well with surf flicks.....momentum generation, Hobgood’s flick . Nathan Fletcher’s movie.

Thats a bummer. I don't know what is so controversial about this movie. OK surfing and drugs have gone hand in hand for a long time and for many people so whats so touchy about a frank portrayal of a certain time and place?
More likely that its not a good look for quicksilver......lucky i saw it the other day,cause it seems like its gone again.....great vid and good story on surfings early dayz....

Look how fucking far up the reef he is compared to everyone else! He is such a psychopath.
I remember reading an interview with a group of nutter big wave surfers. Think kohl, wassell, Greg long etc and they all agreed that Healey is the craziest one, the guy who will hold his position and not paddle out to sea no matter what’s coming towards them. The little bastard fascinates me

Great little clip.... makes me wonder what sort of speed is reached surfing such fast and hollow waves.
Relative to the water: highway speeds! When the vacuum-suck thing happens towards the end of a barrel, the wave spits and there is no air friction - going with the spit or faster: highway speeds!
