Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Thanks RobW. Weak is a fave track from Hoss, great album, almost every track is good on that album.
Check out double PLAIDinum if you havne't before, its my fave from them, and i capitalised the plaid because many people think they sold out and over produced that album getting double PLATINUM sales when they were just joking about PLAID clothing/and platinum albums.....Anyway well tidy album my fave from them.

They were offered many record deals with bigger labels but decided to stay with Fat wreck and keep their freedom and sound the way it should be developed.

My favourite radio show is on, with old mate Neil spinning the discs. Some rippers from the set list.

Haha next bomb i hope will be soon i hope, last i checked forecast is pretty dim here but thanks for the kind words and i think i may know you, not sure just the way you talk and taste in music..Looking after myself, drinking a little sometimes still, but cut it out a HEAP and off fat causing meds- trying to not be a middle aged fat alco has been- that never really was, and get back into good waves before i really have no chance again..
Kind of over did youth party days to be honest i think. But still thinking and honestly feel like this towns peaceful nature these days (was rough on some in 80's/90's)and low crime rate, not doing illegal drugs or getting involved in drug related activities, no police choppers to get paranoid about, hardly any great whites ever seen and mostly good people around here have made me feel like have made a near recovery from over doing the party days a bit and a mental illness.

Anyway hope you are getting waves where ever you are, if you are who i think you could be it would be deadmans and winki at Manly but could be completely wrong. If not wrong the Ulladulla days and Bawley point years were as good a time as any had in indo thanks a heap to your hospitality.

Geez Forster seems like an awkward kinda guy. Good muso though.

blackers Friday, 10 Feb 2023 at 07:35 pm new

Yes, funny how complete introverts are drawn to thrusting themselves into the spotlight as performers. Ron Pino of Died Pretty, Dave Faulkner, Stephen Cummings of the Sports spring to mind.

icandig Friday, 10 Feb 2023 at 09:05 pm new

I met Dave Faulkner after a gig once. I had a Gurus t-shirt which he took into the a back room to get signed by the band. It was a spit the dummy shirt from way back in 1997. I still have it in pristine condition. Also got a poster and a pick from the same tour. I should get it framed. Didn't know he was introverted, he was very social and appreciative of our fan boy adulation. Don't know much about Ron Pino, but Stephen Cummings sure is left of centre.

blackers Friday, 10 Feb 2023 at 09:17 pm new

Great story, they are good to their fans. Have never met Dave Fawkner, just got that impression from him when he was being interviewed. Ron used to hide behind the speaker stacks when singing in the early days. Still really shy in interviews but tansforms on stage.

southernraw Saturday, 11 Feb 2023 at 10:57 pm new

A spiritual shift, many moons ago,....

"All cards played, soon to be revealed,
Demons that plagued, they too will yield,
Without fear or failure, i'll never back down
There'll be no looking back as i head out of this town
Like a flea, under my collar, bite got harder my resistance got stronger
I'll laugh longest, and i'll laugh last but it'll take me an eternity to get to that"

Stuart Lickspittler Sunday, 12 Feb 2023 at 12:07 am new

Yeah, Freo, Blackers. Quite a crowd. Last time I saw 'em was at Mojo's dive bar. Youngsters are tuning in, it seems.

velocityjohnno Saturday, 18 Feb 2023 at 07:02 pm new

Can someone point me to the part of the thread that has the Rockin' Teds, or whatever they were called. These guys in black leather jackets doing really weird street dancing as clip to their tune... need to see this again.

Seen them friday at riverstage too. BR were unreal - id have loved another hour though. I seen that BR's first show was supporting Social D in the early 80's. 2 bands who have aged incredibly well!

The piano kid from Frontline is still at it. Flew to Adelaide to see Numbskulls last week... nice to see young buck Lizards filling Dave's shoes. Matt's drumming (and bv) couldn't hold a candle to this tho:

2023 Chix Resolution Revolution (Regurgitation Revival)

Ok! Whole crew knows of 1981 New Wave Cheer Hit "Hey Mickey... by Toni Basil"
Ever wonder where polished performance track originated?

Toni actually recorded quality Alt Rock tracks back in the '60's
1966 Breakaway (Gritty Northern Soul)

1966 I'm 28 (Alt Dark Avant Garde)

Toni was that Gogo dancer in all them '60's Teen Flix.

Downunder Flip Side...partner in crime!
Mike Chapman was born in Nambour on Sunny Coast (Writer / Singer / Guitarist)
UK Sept 1967 Downliners Sect > Dec 1967 Tangerine Peel >1969/70 Chapman/Chinn
https://www.gettyimages.ch/detail/nachrichtenfoto/the-tangerine-peel-po…
1968 Tangerine Peel-Solid Gold Mountain (Psych fans will freak over Gogo Club scene)
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16z0q8

1970's > Chapman / Chinn Wrote/Produced way too many hits!

1979 UK band Racey LP "Smash and Grab" B2 "Kitty" by Chapman / Chinn
This track was not a single or hit...but is annoyingly infectious!
Simply swap 'Kitty' with 'Mickey' for 1981 Toni Basil hit !

1980 Toni was dating one or two Devo dudes...& Fronted the band on 3 Devo covers!
Just saying that she simply changed some lyric & some music & recorded it as Toni Basil.
Devo fans prefer Toni's versions over New Traditionalists...Ok! Good Point!

1981 Toni simply traded Racey's 'Kitty' for 'Mickey' & kept the same tune in similar fashion.

Tom Breihan walks the crew thru this period...
https://www.stereogum.com/2088588/the-number-ones-toni-basils-mickey/co…

Encore...Whip it Mickey!
Yes! Devo also again performed with Toni for film/s...1988 "Slaughterhouse Rock"
https://www.filmink.com.au/time-after-time-the-invention-and-continual-…

Explosive Bonus...
Spinal Tap's Exploding Drummer {RIP} Ric Parnell drives Mickey's infectious Drum Beat!

2023 Chix Resolution Revolution (New Wave perfect Set)

Oz ~~/(C` Numbers : Five Letter Word. OMG..Annalisse was the Perfect package!
Still ultra rare for a Chick to sing & Play at this time in Oz...( New Wave Idol )
tbb had to go and see this solid 3 piece band at the Playroom...Yep! Perfect!
See also The Maybe Dolls...

UK ~~/(C` The Photos...(B side) Barbarellas (A: Irene)
Dead Set rare (B-Side) gem from still rare New Wave Band...tbb is really puttin' out here!
This is the only New Wave Single tbb or anyone ever needed...Crew won't hear better!
(Sneaky Lyric Sample)
Goin' down the Town ...Gonna see a band that we've found!
Kidz were fun, the best I've ever met ....Now it's just another Rotten Discoteque
It's the only place they got in Town...Why did they have to close it down...

Gotta do 2 UK tracks, Well, one & half, coz otherwise this Alt New Wave Goddess will get left out!
Considering she blew everyone's minds back then...she deserves more credit!

UK ~~/(C`...M - Moonlight & Muzak ...New Wave Fans often wonder who sings the dreamy Chorus)
Chorus by Brigit Novik Vinchon - Vocals 1978-1982 "That be some trippy New Wavin' tones!"
Reckon tbb spun out this Single during sessions...

Spain ~~ /(C`... Suzanne Fellini - Love on the Phone ...Ultra Rare Alt New Wave!
Ok! So tbb confesses to never ever hearing this track before...Late Entry ~ so all are on the same page!
Was researching US chix & track made US Top 100...(Only this lot are much too lively to be Yanks!)
Loads of Hot New Wave 'Phone Songs' by Big Artists...will this Spanish New Waver be kept on hold?
New Waver is makin' love on the phone....please no one stop her...Band Rocks! Way too Hot for USA!

US ~~/(C`...Romeo Void - Never Say Never...This US song managed to get a few hot under the collar!
Joh's Task Force would've confiscated any in store copies...along with Zines / xxx Vidz for the bonfires!
Goldie Goth Chix had to order this band in...not too many copies about then!
Got a fair decent play in the day...So! Yeah!...good solid relevant Alt New Wave pick from US.

truebluebasher Sunday, 19 Mar 2023 at 04:11 am new

swellnet Drum Circle requested to get a decent look at Suzanne's Rad Drummer...
Ok! Maybe just to see Suzanne's Phone Call again...fair enough!
This clip has drummer on a small tight elevated stage so we get a better look!
Note the New Wave Stage + now Suzanne's band got B/W Punk New Wave Gear & Look!
This sounds like the Buzzcocks...with a Punk Chick singin'
Damn hot Performance...Wow!
Bonus "Punk Drummer's" Version > "Love on the Phone!"
