I heart WOTD

The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.

A very 'bitey' wave!

mk1 Wednesday, 21 Dec 2016 at 12:39 pm

Have surfed it. The main road runs right along the edge of the point and the outer section is a reliable swell magnet when it's smaller so it's not a secret. It's not often good through the main length of it as far as I know but that was a long time ago and sands change, so...

Blowin Friday, 23 Dec 2016 at 09:52 pm

Chris Peel - let it go mate, we get the idea....you've got a wave for sale.

See what I mean about not enough mystery , Sypkan ?

sypkan Saturday, 24 Dec 2016 at 10:06 am

yeh fair point mr. mensa

I did feel a little dirty asking, but it's only the NW ffs

and I recall you asking inappropriate questions from time to time, along with a couple of other secret squirrels

Blowin Saturday, 24 Dec 2016 at 07:41 pm

Whoa Sypkan !

Mate, there ain't much to tell about the North West cyclone surfing scene that would be of any use to anybody.

The waves based around the towns are very well known yet they are very fickle beasts and only surfed due to their proximity to shelter as the cyclone is often very close when they're on.

There are world class waves that will be protected from crowds by their total unpredictability and distance from shelter. Mostly novelty waves that just happen to pump occasionally.

When they're on there is a really high chance that you will get stuck exposed to some crazy weather.

But some are definitely worth the risk and you'll be surfing perfect waves by yourself.

Good times if you can get it.

PS That line about the joys of some mystery as relative to the flood of shots of that wave in PNG wasn't a snipe at you, it was more a nudge and a wink about the fact that there must be a photo broadcast to the world every time the joint breaks.

Merry Christmas ya mad bastard.

sypkan Sunday, 25 Dec 2016 at 01:37 pm

'mr. men-sa' wasn't a snipe at you....just me conceding the wise one is probably right....again...

batfink Saturday, 31 Dec 2016 at 07:40 pm

Nice pic Stu, today's WOTD. Just up the road from you, and receives a regular visit from me. Sadly, never like that though!

synchrodogcal Thursday, 5 Jan 2017 at 08:33 am

lucky-al Thursday, 5 Jan 2017 at 01:44 pm

barley Tuesday, 10 Jan 2017 at 03:04 pm

Great shot by a great lad in fuzz..now which editor refused to believe him?? care to own up?hahahah

stunet Tuesday, 10 Jan 2017 at 03:09 pm

I'll put my hand up for that. Doubting Thomas that I am.

Gotta have your guard up against online pranksters, eh Barley?

barley Tuesday, 10 Jan 2017 at 03:51 pm

Well done stu..points for honesty..it is hard to believe!..he knows how to sniff out a bazza

indo-dreaming Sunday, 15 Jan 2017 at 07:57 am

yorkessurfer Tuesday, 17 Jan 2017 at 09:00 am

Wasn't today's WOTD photographer the same guy from the 60 Minutes controversy last year?

stunet Tuesday, 17 Jan 2017 at 09:14 am

Yeah, turns out it is. Didn't really pay attention to the name - not that I could recall it from the story anyway - and only looked at the wave.

zenagain Tuesday, 17 Jan 2017 at 09:25 am

Ha, well spotted guys.

Good shot all the same. Looks fun.

mk1 Tuesday, 17 Jan 2017 at 11:37 am

Backcountry Bliss? This is like a magic eye puzzle - I can't spot it!

simba Tuesday, 17 Jan 2017 at 05:03 pm

Drop ins will be shot....judging by the bullet holes

ethereal Wednesday, 18 Jan 2017 at 02:41 pm

Wow.......wow.............wow.......

zenagain Wednesday, 18 Jan 2017 at 10:39 pm

What happened to my photo and Batfinks comment? Seem to have disappeared?

Blowin Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 10:40 am

Is that Stunet cruising through today's blue dream ?

stunet Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 10:45 am

Fucken wish...

Long story why there's no shots of me from last trip. Probably best not to talk about on here anyway.

Blowin Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 11:31 am

If your intent was to make me curious, then you've succeeded.

You get any of that gold ?

goofyfoot Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 11:51 am

Stu you know you can't say it's probably best not to talk about on here and then leave us hanging. Spill the bloody beans

stunet Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 12:28 pm

Maybe when Blowin next comes trekking down the East Coast...

Blowin Friday, 20 Jan 2017 at 02:44 pm

You never know where I might turn up.

Blowin Saturday, 21 Jan 2017 at 09:20 am

Incredible shot today. Amazing texture and dynamics of the wave combined with water clarity and colours.

Cool as fuck.

Wave looks like its spun from molten mercury......or that shit they made the villain out of in Terminator 2.

Sick little pit too. Strange to think you could slide on and through that liquid nothingness. Think if I keep typing I'm going to drift into an excerpt from the stoners phrase book .

Ala Nat Young -" They're not even waves, they're bands of pure energy "

benski Tuesday, 24 Jan 2017 at 03:26 pm

I mean, it is a bloody photogenic wave.

maddogmorley Tuesday, 24 Jan 2017 at 05:47 pm

Same wave as always - just a different angle. Sigh......such a short wave and so many better waves up that way too.

GuySmiley Friday, 27 Jan 2017 at 10:45 am

Great pic today, love the angle and you can get a real sense of wave

goofyfoot Friday, 27 Jan 2017 at 11:11 am

X2, almost looks friendly from up here

fitzroy-21 Friday, 27 Jan 2017 at 11:58 am

Photoshop?? To me it looks like a different angle from up the valley.

stunet Friday, 27 Jan 2017 at 12:16 pm

No Photoshop. I assume it was taken from near the heiau. Haven't been up there for a long time but those trees were always in view.

stunet Friday, 27 Jan 2017 at 01:06 pm

Ha ha ha...they were there this morning.

GuySmiley Friday, 3 Feb 2017 at 02:03 pm

rather like today's pic, that would do me nicely after a walk over the dunes.

tworules Sunday, 5 Feb 2017 at 06:22 pm

classic shot, outside pipe, all set and no-one in the way. aka Ronnie Burns

GuySmiley Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 07:37 am

todays pic looks out of scale sort of, like its been photoshopped

goofyfoot Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 09:20 am

Having a solid crack at it! Epic

Craig Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 09:22 am

I'm saying he didn't make it.

zenagain Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 09:40 am

50/50 I reckon.

If it was me in the pic- didn't make it:)

goofyfoot Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 10:36 am

Yeah I'm guessing he copped a flogging. Still looks committed though, I reckon I would of been trying to pin drop to the bottom by now

stunet Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 10:51 am

He's committed and composed - as if he thinks he can make it.

A rock solid effort.

Is he succesful? I reckon Zen is half right.

tonybarber Wednesday, 8 Feb 2017 at 11:28 am

Not a chance ...its too late.
