I heart WOTD

The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.

Island Bay Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 07:14 am

Yikes!
And fully agree on the photo. Well done, Craig.

Craig Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 08:24 am

Thanks guys, slow morning but got some gold! That one went so square, you'll see in the shots before this one.

groundswell Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 08:27 am

Yeah awesome shot Craig, i love your work especially sitting in the channel there. i dont know if there's a current but it seems like hard work to get the shot and jumping off too. Getting in from what ive seen on flat days seems even harder.

tubeshooter Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 12:58 pm

Yeah and S.J looks very casual amongst it .
He even has time to brag about the fish he caught earlier.

Bnkref Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 02:06 pm

Sick shot Craig. Just saw the pulled back shot of the same wave by Mark Onorati. That's a ripper too.

Roadkill Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 05:09 pm

great shot...what everyone else said, craig. epic

Paul McD Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 06:24 pm

Awesome pic Craig. Reward for putting in the effort.

Craig Tuesday, 12 Jul 2022 at 07:13 pm

Cheers, how he can be so casual in such a situation is just mind blowing. Another breed.

Bring on Origin, maybe not the boog v stand up battle after the footage came to air yesterday!

Thank goodness it’s over. Tedesco and even more so Cleary shouldn’t have their noggins seen in public ever again..

udo Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 07:52 am

Thats a rare pic not many surf Mcoys let alone longer Mcoys.
Edit : after a longer look the boards not long at all.

stunet Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 08:45 am

I dig the McCoy (and its colour scheme), but I reckon any surfer can connect with the feeling of weighting the toeside rail on a big wave to drop down and accelerate around a breaking section.

Outside of tube riding, it's one of the great feelings.

velocityjohnno Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 01:18 pm

I liked the WOTD today, nice to see a nugget or zap at mach

tubeshooter Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 01:39 pm

Yeah the McCoy caught my eye too. My mate , who doesn't surf anymore, had one with nearly identical colours . Brings back some good memories.

Island Bay Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 02:44 pm

Something about today's pic. Really like it.

san Guine Friday, 15 Jul 2022 at 05:23 pm

Great pic, nice and committed

GuySmiley Tuesday, 19 Jul 2022 at 05:59 pm

Today’s and yesterday’s excellent ~waves for us all…

groundswell Wednesday, 20 Jul 2022 at 03:51 am

Yesterdays looks a lot easier to surf than anything around here. Even the beginner waves here throw fairly wide from takeoff and are rippy.

GuySmiley Wednesday, 20 Jul 2022 at 03:25 pm

Todays makes it a trifecta .... keep them coming boys

Roadkill Wednesday, 20 Jul 2022 at 07:59 pm

A few days of relatable waves….fantastic stuff.

Oh that is gold! Great work Sprout.

H2O Thursday, 4 Aug 2022 at 06:23 pm

Todays WOTD is magnificent. Captures everything , light , athleticism, doing the most with what you've got on a wave and oh to be young and doin your thang.

tubeshooter Tuesday, 9 Aug 2022 at 12:48 pm

I like todays shot . The blurred grass has an interesting effect on the wave face. Nice work .

Craig Tuesday, 9 Aug 2022 at 12:50 pm

Thanks TS.

Love the feeling of getting that first sight of the surf, a pumping, barrelling right running off without a soul in sight.

Bnkref Tuesday, 9 Aug 2022 at 06:27 pm

Yeah me too tubeshooter.

I don't think it is from there, but it looks like one of the popular exposed beachies from your home state, Craig.

Craig Tuesday, 9 Aug 2022 at 08:06 pm

Yeah, nah from a recent trip up the NSW coast :)

Paul McD Wednesday, 10 Aug 2022 at 02:41 pm

Epic shot today by Trent. Insane!!

seeds Saturday, 13 Aug 2022 at 09:40 am

Love todays. Looks cold and isolated. Probably a metropolis just out of shot?

Sprout Thursday, 18 Aug 2022 at 10:25 am

Fit for a King.

Seeds. No way close to a metropolis. Steve Arklay continues this against the will of locals, him and that other clown think they own the joint.

I might regret typing this but I'm fairly sure it's not where you think it is.

seeds Thursday, 18 Aug 2022 at 02:30 pm

I was referring to Ian Everett’s shot from 5 days back.

AlfredWallace Thursday, 18 Aug 2022 at 02:30 pm

Boxright. (Royal A-Frames WOTD.) Oh, thats a spanner in the works of my power of observation. Steve often uses cryptic ways of not telling, when actually he wants to, but knows he shouldn’t. If I’m correct, its where my brother lives and him and his mates get the shits with those two, SA and SD.

nickca Thursday, 18 Aug 2022 at 09:28 pm

Do the photographers get paid for wave of the day?

andy-mac Friday, 19 Aug 2022 at 07:40 am

Heavy water!!!!

groundswell Friday, 19 Aug 2022 at 01:41 pm

Pretty sure that would have been yesterday, first decent winds NW and mid north has had in ages. Excellent wave, i would have been on the lid at that size or photoging.

Worst time in modern history to visit the NW?

That would be a firm yes.

groundswell Friday, 19 Aug 2022 at 08:21 pm

Im not too sure about bluff and gnar but always thought they got similar winds to here. And mid north west has been terrible with devil winds. Maybe gero has had a few days at one spot i used to surf but i dont think gero likes west swells, im not too sure.
Mid north west has been NW, west or North almost every day since Easter.

Was in area all of May and most of June... First time so cannot compare. If crappy year and bad winds, then still better than most places I have been...

groundswell Friday, 19 Aug 2022 at 08:40 pm

Plenty of swell just bad winds for Jakes, were you in Gnaraloo area or Kalbarri/gero?
