Dedicated to good news ....

AndyM Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 03:48 pm new

Doesn't quite sound dramatic enough for The Australian does it.
Still wonder if there's a potential angle of "throw em out on the street with nothing" from an empathetic ABC or Guardian point of view.

indo-dreaming Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 04:37 pm new

I heard on ABC radio the other day prisoners now need to be separated or something, i think they spend pretty much all the time in the cell, and when this happens their sentence gets reduced (i think one third of sentence)

Not good news if you are a victim of crime, dreading the day of release of some criminal, that has most likely already received a sentence way to short :(

AndyM Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 04:40 pm new

"I heard on ABC radio the other day prisoners now need to be separated or something"

Umm, can you be more specific Indo :)

Finally some good news! Covid-19 is over!

And you, my good parishioners, can thank Kenneth Copeland :

That is good news Stu. And in further support for Darwin's theory:

Westofthelake Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 07:46 pm new

Bloody 'ell Stu, was that for real or some alternate reality version of the comedy channel?

Those guys give religion a bad name.....and remind me of the giant from Jack the Giant Slayer with his little side-kick attached.

https://i.ibb.co/k939ZqX/Jack-the-giant-slayer.jpg

There's some funny comments on the youtube channel for this vid.

"I am writing from germany and I ask you guys in the name of the rest of the world: "How did your country became a superpower?"

Westofthelake Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 07:53 pm new

@blackers - it's ok mate, who needs hand-sanitizer when you've got holy water! Sheesh.

goofyfoot Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 06:20 am new

Paddled out this evening at a quiet little spot down here, two guys out taking turns who came in as I was walking down the track.
Had a solo session in fun lightly ruffled onshore peaks until the sky turned pink and the water turned black.
Got changed on the dune looking out over the ocean and down the coast in both directions and there wasn’t one sign of human activity to be seen anywhere.
The cleanest freshest air coming straight off the ocean, not a drop of litter around, and in that moment you could have absolutely no idea what the world is going through.
This really is the lucky country, sometimes I need to remind myself that more often

zenagain Monday, 30 Mar 2020 at 10:45 pm new

Cherish that Goof. Keep it in the bank for when you have to remind yourself just that.

stunet Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 08:17 am new

Great stuff, GF. As our freedoms get reduced, small moments can assume greater significance.

Island Bay Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 08:35 am new

Lucky man, GF. Enjoy.

GuySmiley Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 10:24 am new

Good stuff GF. I last had it like that just over 3 weeks ago for 2 straight days.

Today is another day and this morning the swell is up on the MP so I checked what's open and what's not. As you know the Shire of Mornington (SoM) does not have control over the ocean side but all other beaches controlled by the SoM, including all beaches in Westernport Bay, are now under Stage 3 lockdown and are closed to swimmers, walkers and surfers (as advised this morning by SoM). Looks like its the bike in the bush for me today.

I focus Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 11:42 am new

Hey GF you took me there with you for that moment thanks (that's my good news)

Nick Bone Tuesday, 31 Mar 2020 at 01:45 pm new

Haha. I had that same sort of epiphany last Thursday. Was out solo before another mate got out and was just looking around. No signs of humanity, no bullshit with what’s happening on land and all that mattered for that moment was nothing else but that waves. I giggled at what I thought was a very cliche’d moment.

Good news .....the missing trolley from Toowoomba Woolworths has finally turned up.

https://i.ibb.co/8myXHGw/B4-C74-DF8-A309-4-BB1-9853-2-F00-C72-E2379.png

Im struggling to imagine how this got here. In the middle of a beach which is 15 odd kilometres long .The nearest shops with trolleys is probably 25 kms away and a few kms inland. The nearest town is 8 kms away.

Did someone take it on a mafia style “ Sleeps with the fishes “ boat ride ?

I can just picture a scuba diver descending to the bottom and seeing a shopping trolley trundling along in the current.

simba Wednesday, 1 Apr 2020 at 12:39 pm new

WTF?.......anyway while im bored heres one from the achives ....diving off the rocks south of Depot beach years ago i came across this Dolphin laying in a perfectly shaped hole in the white rocky bottom but as it had kelp growing around it as the surge came the kelp covered the Dolphin completely and when it surged back there was the poor Dolphin, sorta scared the crap out of me as he was in about 20ft water.Closer inspection revealed he had a lump on the back of his head, not a bullet hole but a lump of sorts which is what i assumed was the cause of his demise......was a freaky sight almost like he had been purposedly placed in the perfect size coffin.......

Pops Wednesday, 1 Apr 2020 at 01:21 pm new

Blowin, folk used to chuck trolleys and all manner of other stuff off barrenjoey headland (diving off the joey on a flat day is a real eye opener. Trolleys, concrete, bit bits of rebar, all right under the takeoff zone!)
Maybe one of them somehow drifted all the way up there? Or there's another headland nearby where the same was done?

Blowin Wednesday, 1 Apr 2020 at 01:59 pm new

Nothing like that , Pops. There’s headlands at each end but they sure don’t need shopping trolleys to attract fish.

That’s if you’re talking about a homemade reef. The area is spotlessly clean .

Pops Wednesday, 1 Apr 2020 at 02:10 pm new

Dunno if the trolleys were thrown off to intentionally make a reef... I suspect more likely it was just dickheads doing it for a laugh.

Great news!

The Bureau of Meteorology's outlook for the coming 3 months is wetter than average, with warm water off the North West of the country bringing rain bearing systems across central Australia.

This will also bring cooler than average weather to much of the southern mainland. More here: https://www.bom.gov.au/climate/outlooks/#/overview/summary

OK....we are all looking up at the jackboot of a police state as it sits on our throat , there’s a deadly virus loose afoot the Earth and it looks like the Easter holiday fuctard hordes are STILL gonna descend like Old Testament locusts on the small town lineups.

Combine this with a Pink super moon waxing hard mid-week and there’s a very good chance that the slightly rooted could easily morph into the fucking ridiculous.

So I’m endeavouring to do the right thing.

Nothing but good stuff till midnight next Sunday. I’ll still be here but I’m committed to remaining mercilessly upbeat come hell or high water.

See you on the other side arse stains.

Craig Sunday, 5 Apr 2020 at 08:34 pm new

Good to get in the water with the housing for the first time in maybe 6 months yesterday afternoon.

Wanted to nail one of those inside out shots but didn't quite get any keepers.

Here are a few that I did get though. Followed this by surfing for 2.5 hours on my mid-length in crisp, clean and clean autumn light. A beautiful afternoon before everything started getting shut down :/

Yep, this was my good news yesterday, up a knife-edge ridge in northern NSW to a platform looking north to the Lamington plateau and Springbrook.

Perfect autumnal weather, excellent vis and that smell of the change of seasons.

It may be an enforced break but I'll take it just the same.

chook Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 08:39 am new

beautiful. my favourite walking is along knife-edge ridges...as long as there aren't too many leaps across thin air from rock to rock.

Craig Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 08:44 am new

Yeah, beautiful! Can't beat bouldering and scrambling around the bush and coastal environments.

chook Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 09:01 am new

miss it so much. that smell and feel of sandstone...nothing like it.
i used to regularly climb the cliffs below the palm beach lighthouse that you can see in craig's photo posted above. i remember "space vampires" was a favourite, along with "crack of dawn".

GuySmiley Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 09:03 am new

Good one Craig and Andy, both equally good and the places on the coast where you can do both in the one day are very special.

AndyM Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 09:39 am new

Yep how good is Australia?!

Perfect beaches and beautiful hinterlands, surfing, walking, 4WDing, camping...

And you've inspired me Craig, no more shitty photos taken with a phone - I'm guessing you've got some good gear but that's some nice crisp photos.

Craig Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 09:45 am new

Yeah, these shots were taken with my old Canon 7D, have a new Mark II that I use out of the water though. You don't need to spend too much for a decent camera, it's more so the lenses and the eye :)

AndyM Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 10:06 am new

My DSLR is too heavy to take on long-ish walks, I'll have to bust out the little Canon G12 again, it's passable.

AndyM Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 10:07 am new

Jeez you can spend some cash

Craig Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 10:15 am new

Thanks Zen. And yeah you can Andy! I got an old housing off a mate for a few hundred. Has limited functionality so you have to set everything before you put in the camera but it gets the job done for a play around!

Blowin Monday, 6 Apr 2020 at 11:37 am new

I miss Indo.

Good news is that the waves will just keep breaking and will still be there when we reenter the world.

In other surfing good news is the resurgence of the length in boards. Go watch Tom Curren on his 6’9 destroying Santa Cruz and tell me it isn’t freaking awesome. I’ve posted this vid before but fuck it ....one of the best displays of surfing ever.

Santa Cruz at 1:40 and 3:40.

6’5” Wayne Lynch ridden in WA....I miss that board. Unfortunately didn’t survive an axing Boranup lip.

When’s the Tom Carroll Surfer’s Journal episode come out ?

I need a fix of that goblin shredlord. Glimpses in Gripping Stuff.....he is fucking crazy. Such a direct style.

Gripping stuff era.....when the floater was king.

Was surfing less fun without airs ?

Spuddups Tuesday, 7 Apr 2020 at 01:08 pm new

Considering that only a tiny fraction of surfers can actually do airs I’d have to say that it doesn’t really make much difference.

charles-barkley Friday, 10 Apr 2020 at 08:30 am new

My neighbour is a prawn fisherman and dropped off a box of beauties after returning from trip last weekend. Snapper fishing is totally banned in SA but I just pulled my last one out of the freezer. The Easter feast is on! Happy Easter everyone.

That is a good day

velocityjohnno Thursday, 16 Apr 2020 at 05:00 pm new

One good thing happening currently is the night time walk. We've had clear starry skies recently, and upon getting home two days ago a meteor/fireball streaked across the sky in a general west-east direction. It was there a second and a half and traversed the entire sky. A bit of fire and cloud around it, flashing.

Lo and behold, we are about to enter that time of year the Lyrid meteor shower happens, with a peak into April 22/23, which will also coincide with a new moon, so it will be dark. Could be pretty good.

Reunion Island Surf Story (Fantastic Waves & No Sharks) Chill Session! WTF

Craig Tuesday, 28 Apr 2020 at 04:18 pm new

As I explain in this post below, it was great to see my mate Ollie out and frothing on surfing after having a bit of a rough trot and falling out of love with it last year.

His aim.. to generate speed on rights which is tricky with his prosthetic back leg. After surfing with him three times over the weekend he was getting the hang of it and even throwing the board up into the lip. Insane to see!

zenagain Tuesday, 28 Apr 2020 at 04:48 pm new

Wow!

Never underestimate the healing powers of the waves. Not just the body, the soul.

Onya Ollie.
