Ready for some epic news?

I'm currently up the snow with my wife and big gay dog and got this sent to me while our dog was making new friends.

Against quite considerable odds the dog called Rocky (formerly known as Fluffy) has pulled through his surgery and looks to be ok.

I won't lie, I was in tears when I saw this.

That’s awesome news Zen. To you & everyone who contributed to that dog’s positive outcome, absolutely brilliant. Helps restore one’s faith in humans that’s for sure.

The video in that link in the comments is amazing, up and about walking , truly amazing surgery considering his injuries. Who wouldn’t shed a tear after finding a dog in the state he was in then seeing his incredible recovery.

Good work/result zen, you have a good heart, been reading this story from afar but more than a little too close to home having done years of voluntary work at a local animal rescue shelter.

Caught baby maggie yesterday, its got a very bad case of magpie pox, read about it but first time I've seen it down here. Apparently last year was very bad for it, transmitted mainly by our friends the fucking mosquito. Normally it clears itself after a few weeks but not in this case. Some TLC required. Being treated with betadine and acyclovir topical ointment (cold sore cream) 4 to 5 times a day for the next month or so. Poor little bub. Mum came in this morning and gave it some food through the bars.

Good on you Guy, much kudos. I worked at my local veterinarian clinic as a boy cleaning out the cages and doing all the necessary "shit work" so to speak, was planning on being a vet

Great stuff Seaslug. I reckon those Maggies will spread the word about your goodwill and keep you off their swoop list come September. Hope the little tacker comes good.

1 week in on Maggie May's treatment (her new name after old Rod Stewart song), 3 to 4 times a day with cold sore cream and Betadine. The two growth on right eye getting smaller and drying up. Hopefully will drop off soon. Left eye still yucky but growths seem to be reducing and drying up. In the 2nd picture you can see the length of the growth on left eye, 3/4 length of a matchstick. Still no vision in left eye, hopefully eye still ok. Secondary infection so antibiotic cream and drops on the way. Seems more energetic and eating (ox heart, boiled eggs and insectivore) and drinking well. Also dabbing some colloidal silver on eye infection and has it as well for drinking water.

tiger Tuesday, 8 Feb 2022 at 04:54 pm new

Good onyas seaslug. Looks like you're making good progress!
A word of warning to everyone to keep their eyes peeled for kookaburras on the road. Particularly in the predawn on country roads, for some reason at this time of year they like to be on the road at that time. Seen a few of them squished in the past week, and had a few near misses.

tubeshooter Tuesday, 8 Feb 2022 at 05:23 pm new

So stoked for Rocky ,, top stuff.
And kudos seaslug, going above and beyond the call of duty. Great work.

I focus Tuesday, 8 Feb 2022 at 08:58 pm new

Seaslug, banking good karma there awesome

seaslug Thursday, 10 Feb 2022 at 12:09 pm new

Don't want to get to hopeful yet but it looks like I can see a functioning left eye under all the growths which are slowly drying up, started with the antibiotic cream and drops yesterday for secondary infection. Go Maggie May.

blackers Thursday, 10 Feb 2022 at 02:56 pm new

Legend sea slug. You’ve got the Magpie Air Force on side for sure

velocityjohnno Saturday, 12 Feb 2022 at 11:40 am new

Sea slug that's so good - great use of some valuable skills.

When we took the kids to the Abrholos when they were little, we flew back in the small light aircraft with a baby sea eagle in a container on the floor under our feet. Had to lift legs. Baby had been weaned a bit hard by mum and was off to Gero animal rescue for rehab. These people are saints.

Saw a flight of about 15 Black Cockatoos the other day, great sight.

Edit: the sea eagle was described as a baby but it was still huge!

gragagan Saturday, 12 Feb 2022 at 11:56 am new

Excellent work SS. Maggies are great

Positive stuff.

"The ACT will become the first Australian jurisdiction to recognise a healthy environment as a human right, after Greens MLA Jo Clay’s motion passed the Legislative Assembly this afternoon."

https://canberraweekly.com.au/environment-becomes-human-right-in-austra…

arcadia Monday, 14 Feb 2022 at 01:58 pm new

Positive step. Next, perhaps they will recognize the right of other species to exist.
Or do they already?

stunet Tuesday, 15 Feb 2022 at 12:44 pm new

Another new wooden wall ride on the trails near home. I didn't build this one but it's a fine addition to the network. Very different to the others in that it takes your bike one way (to the right), but to get off it off it you've got to bunnyhop and land with the bike angling to the left. No easy feat.

Doesn't really make sense posting mtb stuff in here, so might start a dedicated mtb thread, even if only I post in it.
