When the poms go into defence mode, with Stokes bowling bouncers and Root bowling leg side poo with a stacked field, the Aussies have picked up 2-3 runs an over risk free.
When the poms fast bowlers took the foot off the pedal, the Aussie tail attacked.
After 5 sessions in the heat, the poms are now facing a fresh attack at night with the new ball. It will still be shiny tomorrow morning for another assault with well rested bowlers.
The only thing that's gone right for them is a lighting break!!
Saved by the rain. Reckon they could have been another 1-2 wickets down by the end of play otherwise

just a quick diversion from the cricket chat...as it seems the Aussies have a full head of steam.....Adin Massencamp (who?) just beat Jordy Smith in a thriller in the final at Ballito. Great stuff for the underdog. Anyway....be good to see Warner get the tonne this innings.

I just happened to click on the last 5 mins of the final, had no idea it was on. Looking at the last 2 scoring rides, Adin was bumped up and Jordy underscored IMO.

Oh my goodness, Joe Root....that was some extraordinary stuff. I honestly don't think i've ever cringed so much and laughed so hard at the same time for any sport. The commentary was hilarious. Seeing all the commentators...someone as distinguished as Ricky Ponting, almost pissing their pants in laughter was one of the greatest sporting moments i've seen....but oh man, poor Joe root.. To top it off got his wicket on the last ball. yew!

Probably better off checking for a highlights vid. Nath was livestreaming from his potato on the beach, the other was a live pipe cam. John got a high nine with about a minute to go to win, then got one just after the siren at backdoor to come in on that was probably even better. Waves were ok, not great, bit smallish

Who do we bring in/omit for the 3rd test? I'd be giving Harris the heave-ho and give new blood a chance - maybe one of the Big Bash wunderkinds like Josh Philippe or Kurtis Patterson.
Kurtis Patterson has played test cricket already. I think it was only one game, scored a hundred.
Harris is just there to keep Pukovski's spot warm 'til he gets over his concussion issues. I reckon replace warner the wanker with Phillipe

Best day of test cricket i've watched in a while. Knocked off work, had a swim amongst the tourists and then got out of the wild dry rampaging easterlies for a day of absolutely on edge test cricket. I enjoyed todays session as much as any Pipe masters i've seen in a while. Riveting stuff!
The footwork of England's 1,2 & 3 is just woeful. They camp out deep in the crease on bouncy pitches with tall guys bowling 140km/h +.
Those blokes are going to nick off non-stop. It's bloody embarrassing technique from professional players.
Looks like a tough pitch....plus crowd factor..plus pressure of ashes.
Seemed hard for Smith, Laberschagne, and the rest of the oz top order....considering they only made 70 more runs than England. Might be a bigger picture there VL,....as usual.
BD, no doubt the pitch isn't a batter friendly road, but the poms top order (with the exception of Root) have techniques that are destined to fail.
The selector has absolute rocks in his head thinking that those blokes would score runs. Their approach to batting in Australian conditions is just so wrong.

It's not that bad, but going with so many left handers to broad at the top of the order was just downright silly. Australians at least go over there and play county cricket to get use to the conditions. The poms on the other hand have zero experience in Australia and even less understanding of how to bat on hard bouncy wickets.
It's actually an insult to the crowds how bad they are.
Looks like you were spot on with that call VJ, 7 for 61, Root just out to Boland (a possible fivefer on debut). Third highest run scorer for England in 2021, after Root and Burns is extras at 435..

Watching the big bash last night, thinking they could replace the entire test team with the England players from the bash, they'd have to do better than the current mob. Except for Root
Yeah the bowlers didn't do too bad. Moeen Ali would've been handy as a spin option and extra batter but I think he retired. Better batter and bowler than the spinner they had
