I heart WOTD

Blowin started the topic in Wednesday, 30 Jul 2014 at 08:07 am

The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.

Craig Sunday, 6 Sep 2020 at 01:48 pm

Great isn't it, and yes Zen.

truebluebasher Monday, 7 Sep 2020 at 09:55 pm

I heart all #1 swellnet WOTD photos...insane shots guys!

Bnkref Monday, 7 Sep 2020 at 11:00 pm

Me too. Today’s in particular. Something to dream about from a locked down Melbourne.

GreenJam Tuesday, 8 Sep 2020 at 01:39 pm

I really loved Sunday's WOTD - 'frozen in time'. Then checked out Marcus' website and, some really cool stuff there, and bringing back great memories of the landscape and people from my short time in that part of the world. Love your work Marcus.

goofyfoot Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 07:13 am

Pete. Again. Epic stuff

zenagain Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 08:21 am

Wow. Didn't even look at the watermark and thought straight to myself, that's a cracking shot.

Another beauty Mr. Jovic- a lot going on there.

H2O Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 10:11 am

Where is it?

Bnkref Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 11:31 am

Phenomenal today. Victory at sea conditions.

stunet Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 11:46 am

That whitewash ain't white and fluffy and harmless. It's angry.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 01:59 pm

It’s Down South of Down South I’d venture.

GuySmiley Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 02:18 pm

Massive slabatron

H2O Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 02:33 pm

Ha, looks south , awesome shot and hats off to Zac.

Westofthelake Monday, 14 Sep 2020 at 06:39 pm

Unreal. That foam zone is mental.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 06:43 am

Sweet Jesus . Just take a look at that thing. There’s not many places in surfing I’d rather not be than in Tyler Holmer-Cross’ shoes at that moment .

Goes to show how normalised the brutality of slab riding is getting when an amazing photo like that is a bit of a throwaway digital shot instead of a massive poster on the walls of every surfer’s bedroom as it would have been had the photo been taken 40 years ago.

Shout out to Noah Hassett with his shot at the same spot a few days ago. I met the Hassett family in West Sumbawa a few years ago when Noah was just a grommet. Good people and looks like Noah has become a fine and committed surfer . Power to him. Go the young guns !

simba Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 06:46 am

Looks like Tyler has lost all his speed and waving farewell to the guys in the boat.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 06:53 am

That’s some House of Pain shit about to go down.

stunet Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 10:18 am

Not a single comment on Old Man Margo's contortion yesterday?

Ash Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 10:52 am

Yep I tried to refrain from making another comment on Margo, but fuck it what ever he's doing there is all power. The wall on the Shippies beast is solid green vertical glass, it'd be good to know if he got through.

Jono Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 11:06 am

I reckon today's one is deceiving. Looks like he has no speed, but look where his board trail ends - he's just air dropped about 10 feet. He's possibly flying along, photo just caught him as he's hit the flats.

DudeSweetDudeSweet Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 11:43 am

Yep , Margo is relentless in his attack. He’s blown that lip to smithereens .

I didn’t rate the shot as high after assuming it was a tow-in from the track of his wake.

We need to invent an onomatopoeic word to describe Margo’s ridiculously destructive lip assault.

Hiccups Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 01:15 pm

Margo's renaissance is a thing of beauty.

Island Bay Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 01:24 pm

Holy smokes, that's a turn! The world needs all the Margo it can get, I reckon.

Craig Wednesday, 23 Sep 2020 at 01:25 pm

Soo good eh!

zenagain Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 05:33 pm

I couldn't let the day end without belatedly mentioning Ollie Brennan's shot today and pondering the absolute arse kicking that unidentified charger is about to go through.

Or he made it...

stunet Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 05:42 pm

"Or he made it..."

Ha ha ha

zenagain Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 05:58 pm

Ever the optimist Stu.

Westofthelake Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 07:53 pm

Haha I keep looking at it thinking is that guy really in that position where he is about to get totally fucked over. My eyes ain't what they used to be, but it sure looks like it. Ouch!

stunet Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 07:55 pm

We just found out it's Samson Coulter AKA Pikelet from the film adaptation of 'Breath'.

Sando would be proud.

Patrick Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 07:59 pm

Pikelet's gonna get pancaked.
Where is it?

zenagain Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 08:09 pm

Pancakes on the Rocks?

Rabbits68 Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 08:48 pm

"We just found out it's Samson Coulter AKA Pikelet from the film adaptation of 'Breath'.

Classic!

Roker Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 09:15 pm

Amazing wave/surfing/shot.

I finally got around to watching Breath recently. Enjoyed it a lot. Especially Pikelet.

Assuming Ollie kept the shutter button down. Love to see the rest.

Roker Thursday, 24 Sep 2020 at 09:19 pm

Seymour Scagnetti Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 01:28 am

Great shot. I reckon the last thing he saw before face met face woulda been worth the price of admission. Riding high!

factotum Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 11:59 am

Smythy! The Peter Jovic of the South coast! Good one.

Bnkref Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 01:21 pm

Nice one. Is it South Coast though? I'm not convinced. Mates think it is.

Craig Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 01:30 pm

I didn't guess this one, threw me. It's South.

zenagain Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 01:59 pm

That could be anywhere on the east coast on any good day.

Craig Friday, 25 Sep 2020 at 02:12 pm

Yes but day of days on the almost coast!

Solitude Monday, 28 Sep 2020 at 05:57 am

The moments you capture Peter. Wow. Today’s is absolutely stunning. Black, glass, oily art. Thanks for sharing.

PS- loved the ‘granite coast’ beachie the other day. My idea of perfection

shoredump Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 05:16 am

The best way to check how good the surf is, is by what time the WOTD goes up.

Morning Stu

Bnkref Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 06:28 am

Ha! I saw it up very early and was wondering about the timing. Another cracker from PJ.

stunet Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 06:59 am

You're onto me Shorey. If I know I'm leaving real early I'll program it the night before, but if I'm up at the regular time I'll wait and see if anything's come in overnight.

So this morning's WOTD was up real early, as was I, and so unfortunately was the wind.

zenagain Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 07:42 am

Such a good shot you had to put it up super early.

More epicness from Pete Jovic.

Ape Anonymous Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 09:58 am

You could fit a whole herd of cows in that barrel!!!

Bnkref Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 at 02:25 pm

Almost looks like haze from a bushfire in the background.

I was about to ask for a hint of where it was but thanks AA. That's confirmed it for me.

indo-dreaming Friday, 2 Oct 2020 at 07:16 am

First glance i thought that was an old pic of Jason Buttonshaw.

zenagain Friday, 2 Oct 2020 at 08:22 am

I thought that too Indo.

Iconic Martin Tullemans (spelling?) shot of Butto at D'Bah. One of my all time faves.

AndyM Friday, 2 Oct 2020 at 08:36 am

Same here, the blond hair, stance, fluro colours and the wave itself.

velocityjohnno Friday, 2 Oct 2020 at 11:56 am

Was going to say exactly the same thing, pic is in the Atlas of Australian surfing I think?? Biomechanics similarity uncanny
