They were all that colour scheme.

stunet Saturday, 21 Jan 2023 at 09:16 am

Ah, OK. Wonder how sales were amongst Newcastle Knights fans?

Westofthelake Saturday, 21 Jan 2023 at 09:21 am

There's been a lot of disappointment with those colours since about 2001...

Ads like this give me the shits, a hand shaped board from DVS an absolute legend, selling for peanuts FFS. I got Dirk to shape me a keel fish in 2005 and still love surfing it regularly. Strictly not for sale, not ever

Roystein Monday, 13 Feb 2023 at 11:10 pm

Those 2 boards would share so much DNA as explained by DVS once when discussing a custom, in the end I ordered a Reefrunner

dandandan Thursday, 16 Feb 2023 at 02:39 pm

Not a board, but the boat Torren etc had been sailing through Indo is up for sale in Lombok for a $99k. Bit overpriced if you ask me, but there's plenty of money floating around Bali at the moment and a lot of them would love to pretend to be Torren for a season.

Last time i asked a few Sulawesi friends for a price on a 40-60 foot phinisi pretty sure it was around $20 000 USD custom made to your specs etc.(Lease much less) No leather or furniture etc That was in 2011 or 2012 some year around there --whenever i met up with an old skipper friend and we thought of a business idea....But he wanted a navy second hand vessel instead...Bad decision making on both our parts there.We lost our jobs working on it so much (i couldn't meet up with a close Indonesian friend i sponsored for visa, who earlier sponsored me--as i was stuck on the ship painting and removing rust without a tender)
then couldn't pay the hefty price on a shipping lane mooring spot(shipping lanes cheapest mooring spots in harbour)mooring fees...Really pricey and i would be embarrassed to say how much it was.

Benoa Harbour Bali is almost as pricey and police always expecting bribes from bule who own boats/ships and moor there.

Boats and ships even if Indonesian built and bought for a bargain will send most people broke or just break even in the end -even for a good business model/ idea/plan most of the time.

If rich though like many seem to be in Bali like you say, they should go for it.

groundswell Friday, 17 Feb 2023 at 12:31 am

Just looked up mooring prices and was ripped off by my friend..Told me 4k a month and its around $5500 a year the bastard...Oh well user and scammer i guess but he lost a well paying job and had an expensive apartment in Elizabeth bay to pay for...We had a chance and we both blew the chance dreams were made of..

Should have leased a pinisi.

After surfing modern guns and semi-guns it's very hard to go back to that full spear nose.

If Tuncurry wasn't so far from Tasmania I'd buy that. A lot of used Outers are just too narrow for me but this looks the goods.

@udo
Got a fairly unique board I'm considering selling from my collection , I'm not on FB or anything , is there a more specialised website rather than Gumtree ,eBay ? You seem to be on point with finding stuff around the net
Thanks for any info

udo Sunday, 12 Mar 2023 at 03:24 pm

Thats one for Stu.....
List it on Gumtree and they will find you real quick...prob lots out there like this

stunet Monday, 13 Mar 2023 at 08:55 am

@campbell,

As Udo says, put it on Gumtree and they'll find you. Before you do, I'd suggest spending some time checking FB sites like Vintage Surfboard Collectors (there are two sites with the same name, both are worthwhile), and Vintage Surfboard Valuations.

I think you can check them without being a member. If you can, they'll give you an idea of where the market is at - and it's shifting quite a bit right now.

Often see people dive in with a false sense of their board's worth - too much or too little - so best to get an idea of what you have before you make any moves.

FWIW I'm sitting at home waiting for a board courier to pick up a bunch of Insight banana boards I just sold.

campbell Wednesday, 15 Mar 2023 at 11:41 am

Thanks for the replies
Thats the issue, finding the right starting point.
I went to a vintage board auction in Honolulu years ago and was blown away by what some stuff went for , classics like Pat Curren balsa guns, Greg Noll Da Cat models etc for 40-50 k! Even lightning bolt boards and stuff going nuts but a Greenough spoon went for nix, this may have been in the heyday of surfboard collecting (2003ish) ?
Merican market too rather than Aussies.

I find with vintage boards, unless they are very big names, the further you are from the place they were shaped the less you'll sell it for.

I bought a 6'7" single fin Emerald shaped by Chris Griffith for a steal in Hobart recently, with a mate near Yamba saying he'd buy it off me for several hundred more than I paid once I am done with it. Nobody down here knew anything about it so nobody wanted it. Whereas there was a bidding war for 1970s Tern - local Tassie brand - that would have barely sold for $50 on the mainland.
