I heart WOTD

The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.

tiger Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 09:16 am

I need something cleared up. Is it world's best worst wave. Or, world's worst best wave?

lostdoggy Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 09:35 am

Worst best

Craig Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 09:36 am

I'm not sure on that, have to ask Blowin, all I know is that it's hell of a lot of fun on the right board and swell! So prob latter?

Pops Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 09:38 am

Worst best wave on the east coast.

san Guine Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 09:45 am

Western Port has any number of the best worst waves

Bnkref Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 10:07 am

Andy's been on the road I see. Very different to home base.

thermalben Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 10:24 am

Whatcha talkin' about Bnkref? Haven't you scoured all of those secret long right-hand pointbreaks west of Victor, east of Jervis before?

Bnkref Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 10:30 am

Shhhhh Ben. No waves worth travelling for in SA.

blackers Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 10:45 am

I'm with Craig, good fun on the right board. Plenty of worse waves in the immediate area, and Westernport.

Nick Bone Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 11:18 am

Surely there has been some sort all time sand build up?

belly Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 11:30 am

It's reef

indo-dreaming Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 12:50 pm

Im sure the base of the wave is reef but there is also a lot of sand.

Blowin Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 12:57 pm

The worst good wave in Australia.

indo-dreaming Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 01:06 pm

"The worst good wave in Australia."

It is kind of true, it's such an epic set up geographically everything is perfect even that spot you paddle out from it's like its made by nature for surfers.

And then the wave while fun, it's one of those spots where you think, if only it broke like Lennox or Burleigh or even the Alley.

Would have been the perfect wave in the 60s though.

Still a really beautiful spot though.

garyg1412 Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 01:17 pm

Went there in 2013 and was 22nd in line for the rock jump off. Hate to know what it's like nowadays.

Craig Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 01:23 pm

Sand dependant but can get really good and not too busy if you're savvy.

tiger Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 02:04 pm

Oh yeah, I usually have a fun time out there. It's just so underwhelmingly ok.

lostdoggy Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 03:32 pm

It’s frustrating driving down there from the North on the new freeway as you go under worst good wave rd then have to keep going 10 mins exiting through sth hell hole and loop right back around.

Craig Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 03:35 pm

Hahaha.

Mcface Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 04:23 pm

Haha you're not wrong LD.

Had many a good session there and surrounds, been the staple of my sand bottomed point break action, and have a similar picture taken by yours truly which has taken up residence on my phone's home screen. Agree the crowd factor is variable, I suppose like any spot on its day really.

Blowin Friday, 26 Feb 2021 at 05:02 pm

Here’s something that I’m a bit loathe to broadcast but I consider it a favour to you Lostdoggy : The freeway may be quicker but the allure and charm is in driving down the Belmore river.

That’s going to be recognised and heavily promoted as an iconic scenic drive one day and by that time it’ll be a shitfight inundated with fckstix. Do yourself a favour, leave a little bit earlier and cruise that still timeless stretch of road towards Worst Good Point while you still can.

Like anything decent in life as soon as it’s branded and neatly packaged for consumption it’s done. It’ll be tour buses and rest stops with brown painted signs indicating suitable photo opportunities.

Place without a postcard.

Shrubs??
Scrub or bush no shrubs

stunet Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 08:14 am

"It's a shrubbery"

GuySmiley Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 08:25 am

Haha, the waves are manicured at least, nice pic

blackers Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 09:04 am

Sorry Guy, I'm with Stu.
"shrub:(NOUN)a woody perennial plant, smaller than a tree, with several major branches arising from near the base of the main stem"- Collins English Dictionary.
I am more interested in the name given to the bloke/s paddling for the wave that clearly has someone already up and barrelled. A "super-banker"?

Jono Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 09:08 am

Stu please tell me you're quoting the Knights Who Say Ni?

GuySmiley Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 09:11 am

Not buying it blackers while noting you used an English dictionary; shrubs belong in a garden.

stunet Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 09:45 am

Aye, Jono.

blackers Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 11:41 am

So Guy, will you believe the local shire? A common coastal plant in that neck of the woods is Sweet Bursaria reckon I can see some in the foreground).
Sweet Bursaria: Bursaria spinosa subsp. spinosa
Prickly woody shrub to 2m or more, with small oval leaves.

GuySmiley Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 01:38 pm

Agreed blackers the surf coast shire have been gentrified haha

ringmaster Friday, 5 Mar 2021 at 06:40 pm

I focus Friday, 12 Mar 2021 at 03:36 pm

Great angle captured by Steve Arklay today(how great a frame when considering the light).

It reminders me how much I suck at grabbing rail.

tubeshooter Friday, 12 Mar 2021 at 10:06 pm

Blowin Tuesday, 23 Mar 2021 at 07:09 am

Classic Richard Cram.

Westofthelake Monday, 12 Apr 2021 at 10:11 am

Was thinking the same this morning Zen. I haven't heard his name in like 30 years, shows we're deffo showing our age.

san Guine Monday, 12 Apr 2021 at 11:36 am

Yeah agreed Zen and WotL,
I think it was in The Performers '82-83 his surfing at OTW (?) was unrivalled for power and timing

ringmaster Monday, 12 Apr 2021 at 04:01 pm

Set to the tune of 'Burning Down The House' (Talking Heads) if my memory is still not totally shot. Still got the vid somewhere..............yep, a few of us are are getting on in life.

Nice work Tubeshooter!

CMC Wednesday, 14 Apr 2021 at 06:02 pm

If todays shot is where I think it is, I spent quite a few years surfing that spot in the 80 - 90's when it was on.
The rock outcrop in the background has a name starting with E?
